The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, yesterday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Jackson Park in Koforidua, a modern facility aimed at reducing congestion and boosting economic activities in the New Juaben South Municipality.

The project, which cost over GH¢8million, was funded by the World Bank through the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP).

The construction of the park which began in 2021 and was completed in four phases featured a 15,000-square-meter space, volleyball and basketball courts, public and VIP stands, lockable stores, and an event and recreational centre.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the park’s transformation.

“This facility gives a significant facelift to the municipality. It will serve the current generation and those yet unborn.

“Government remains committed to providing the necessary infrastructure for the people,” he stated.

The President also lauded the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong; the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi; and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, for their efforts in ensuring the project’s successful completion.

The Eastern Regional Minister emphasized the park’s historical significance as a centre of entertainment for the municipality.

He noted that its redevelopment would revitalise local commerce, reduce congestion in the central business district, and provide traders with modern stores to operate in.

He urged the facility’s management to maintain the park and ensure its effective utilisation for community development.

Mr Baafi on his part, highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the area.

He mentioned ongoing projects, including road rehabilitations, stadium upgrades, and court renovations, adding that the redevelopment of Jackson Park was a tip of the iceberg.

“This project is a testament to the government’s dedication to improving the lives of the people. We are indeed grateful to the President and his administration for their continued support,” he said.

The MCE, Mr Appaw-Gyasi, expressed gratitude to the President for the park’s redevelopment, calling it a significant milestone for the municipality.

He assured residents that the facility would serve as a hub for social, economic, and recreational activities.

The MCE said the Jackson’s Park redevelopment was expected to have a profound impact on the municipality by improving the aesthetics of Koforidua, boosting local businesses, and providing a versatile space for events and recreation.

He said the project was part of the government’s broader agenda to enhance urban infrastructure across the country, supported by strategic partnerships like the GSCSP.

Residents who spoke to The Ghanaian Times were optimistic that the park would drive economic growth and contribute to the municipality’s development for years to come.
