Manchester United begin their Carabao Cup journey at home to Barnsley on Tuesday night.

The Reds got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Southampton. It was an important win to help lift the mood at Old Trafford after a slow start to the season.

United have been a cup side under Erik ten Hag, so this could be the start of another long run in a competition, with the Dutchman winning two trophies in the first two years at the club.

The third-round tie against Barnsley will kick-off at 8 pm on Tuesday, and it will be held at Old Trafford. It will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and subscribers will be able to catch the live action via Sky Go.

Ten Hag was hopeful all of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire didn’t suffer serious knocks against Southampton. The manager speaks to the press this afternoon and we’re expecting updates on all three.

That said, De Ligt said he only suffered a cramp against the Saints and that Ten Hag decided to replace him towards the end of the match.

We are also expecting updates on Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw, who are progressing on their return from injuries.

United are clear favourites to beat Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

It’s a great opportunity to give some fringe players – like Antony – an opportunity, but also the likes of Manuel Ugarte, who needs minutes on the pitch.
