Prince William was a no-show at a memorial service for his late godfather King Constantine II of Greece at Windsor Castle on Tuesday amid his wife Kate Middleton’s recovery from abdominal surgery.

The reason behind the Prince of Wales’ absence was unclear, but a Kensington Palace spokesperson tells Page Six that the Princess of Wales is “doing well.”

William, 41, was scheduled to give a reading but called the Greek royal family at the last minute to apologize for backing out due to “personal reasons,” the Daily Mail reported.

Crown Prince Pavlos, Constantine’s oldest son, stepped in to conduct the reading instead.

Middleton, 42, is reportedly recovering at home and won’t be attending any public-facing events until after Easter this spring. She underwent her planned surgery in January and was already back to working from bed earlier this month.

Constantine — who died on Jan. 10, 2023 at the age 82 years as the last King of Greece following a coup — was William’s godfather.

Queen Camilla, 76, led the charge at the royal event as her husband, King Charles III, continued to stay out of the spotlight amid his cancer treatment.

Other British royal family members at the affair included Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, as well as their daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, and Princess Anne and Zara and Mike Tindall.

Charles, who has been staying at Windsor castle amid his cancer battle, was reportedly on the estate earlier in the day but left in the morning.

He is not expected to have an audience with the Greek royals who traveled to be there.

The monarch, 75, announced his cancer diagnosis earlier this month and was back to attending his in-person royal responsibilities last week when he met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace in London.

The King told Sunak that he has been “reduced to tears most of the time” as fans continue to send well-wishes and cards.

Charles has not disclosed the type of cancer he has but explained to the public that he wanted to share his diagnosis to be transparent and to help those who can relate to his struggles.

The sovereign had just ascended the throne in May 2023 after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at the age of 96 in September 2022. William, Charles’ eldest son, is first in the line of succession to the British throne.
