Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, as well as the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, are among the dignitaries expected at the Family Weekend and Annual General Meeting of Prison Fellowship Nigeria which kicks off on Thursday, at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The AGM, which has as its theme “Transforming Power” will also feature a keynote address on the topic “Decongestion of Our Correctional Facilities: Roles of Judiciary to be delivered by Dipeolu.
This was according to a statement signed by Apostle Paul Joseph from the Media Unit of PFN and made available to journalists on Monday.
The statement said, “Prison Fellowship Nigeria, chartered with Prison Fellowship International as well as a member of the African Union Commission on Human and People’s Rights, is a faith-based organization that is committed to reforms of our correctional facilities and the inmates towards building a better society.
“This year’s family weekend and Annual General Meeting with the theme ‘Transforming Power” according to 2Cor 3:18 is designed to further use the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to cause a turn around for good both in the life of the inmates and the society at large.,
“The goal of the body is focused on holistic welfare and total transformation of the inmates, to integrate such inmates into the society; thereby making them useful to themselves, humanity and God.
“The Prison Fellowship is also involved in Criminal Justice and Correctional Service reforms advocacy for victims and families of those affected by crime, materials and medical service support for inmates, legal aid, and capacity development for those involved in and affected by crime.”
The statement disclosed further that Abiodun is the distinguished guest of honour for this yearly event, under the chairmanship of Dr Emmanuel Adekunle, the state chairman, the Christian Association Of Nigeria and Bishop, Egba Anglican Diocese.
Other speakers at the three-day conference which will attract about 600 delegates across the country include The international President of Prison Fellowship, Mr Andy Corley, the Executive Director, Prison Fellowship Nigeria, Barrister Benson Iwuagwu as well as African Regional Director Mrs. Ashella Ndhlovu among others.
