The Ogun State Police Command has begun an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of 16-year-old Raji Wasiu in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday that the teenage boy passed away on Monday, shortly after being taken home by an individual who reportedly found him ill at a junction in the Ijebu area of the state.
Although the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that no traces of foul play were found on the teenager, she noted that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
She said, “According to a report filed at the Obalende Police Division at approximately 12:30 a.m., the incident was brought to the attention of authorities by Oluwaseun Olamide, a resident of 18 Mobegelu Street, Off Italapo Road, Ijebu Ode.
“Olamide stated that Wasiu had been brought home sick around 8:00 p.m. by a 47-year-old man. Upon arrival, Wasiu was handed over to his grandmother, Kuburatu Raji, and his younger brother, Oriyomi Raji. However, barely an hour after the man left, Wasiu passed away.
“The case has been referred to the Division of Criminal Investigation for further investigation. Officers, including an eyewitness and three others, visited the scene, critically examined the body, and found no signs of violence. Photographs were taken before the body was deposited at the Ijebu Ode mortuary for an autopsy.
“Further inquiries revealed that Wasiu had been sick for over two weeks but refused to return home for treatment. His younger brother, Oriyomi Raji, and two friends, Adewunmi Femi and Julius Ogunkunle, confirmed this account.”
In September 2024, PUNCH Metro reported that the Ogun State Police Command arrested Alex Eziochukwu for allegedly murdering 16-year-old Jamilu Lasisi in the Ibegba area of Sagamu Local Government Area.
According to the police, an argument between Eziochukwu and the deceased escalated into a confrontation on a Tuesday.
During the altercation, Lasisi reportedly collapsed on a football pitch. He was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but was later declared dead.
