A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Tanko Yunusa, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take quick action in addressing the demands of the #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Yunusa told the president not to feel he is untouchable and therefore ignore the demands of the protesters.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, the Labour Party chieftain advised President Tinubu to take action before it’s too late.

“Mr President do not sit on that chair and think nothing can happen to you, help the people, do it now before it is too late,” he said.

Yunusa highlighted that the protests in the north represent a significant shift away from issues of ethnicity, tribalism, or religion and now focused on socio-economic issues.

“For the first time in the north, they are involved in socioeconomic protest,” he said.

Yunusa submitted that the federal government should have taken action before the protesters took to the streets, adding that it is wrong to blame the protests on some unseen sponsors behind the scenes.

He said “The government did not take precise position and deal with the issue immediately, Mr President has allegedly said to have been sponsoring protests and nobody has threatened or arrested him.”

On what could be the solution, Yunusa suggested a reduction in the pump price of petrol would douse the tension and end the protests.

“Had it been that the government of the day including Mr President had been able to make one single pronouncement to bring the prices of PMS down to 200 naira per litre we possibly wouldn’t have had this protest,” he said.

He concluded by urging the President to act decisively and emphasised the need for immediate action to address the people’s demands.
