Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Gusau town, the Zamfara State capital, on Monday, as the #EndToBadGovernanceInNigeria protest entered its fifth day across many states of the country.
The protesters, who were mostly youths, blocked the major highways leading to Gusau town, thereby making the movement of goods and services to a standstill.
The protesters later moved to the town and began to break up the shops and carted away properties worth billions of naira.
The worst hit by the looting spree was the Tudun-Wada Market where properties such as bags of rice, cement, vegetables and palm oil were taken away by the protesters.
One person was said to have lost his life in the Tudun-wada market as a result of gunshots from the security personnel.
Similarly, the protesters also destroyed many buildings, including the state’s headquarters of the All Progressives Congress.
The spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached for comments as his lines were not going as of the time of filling in this report.
