It is no secret that FC Barcelona have Nico Williams as their utmost priority for the current summer transfer window.

The Blaugrana have already tabled a contract offer for the 22-year-old Spaniard and are hoping for a positive response from the Athletic Club so as to close the operation as early as possible.

Nico has been attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea being keen on his acquisition, although they see the operation as too expensive.

Now, it appears that another suitor has emerged for the Barcelona target for whom finances might not be much of an issue.

Indeed, according to The Athletic, PSG have shown an interest in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club.

In fact, the Ligue 1 champions have already made tentative contacts to explore the possibility of signing the winger, whose contract with the Basque club expires in 2027 and has a release clause worth around €58 million.

PSG are in the market for a new forward to fill in the shoes left vacant by the exit of Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal was briefly on their agenda, but it now seems that they have turned their focus to Nico Williams.

As mentioned earlier, Barça have made Nico their utmost priority and have sent a long-term contract proposal as well. At the same time, they also reportedly have everything ready to activate his €58 million buyout clause.

As such, Barcelona are increasingly confident of closing the deal, although the player is yet to give his final ‘OK’.

Whether the entry of PSG into the picture affects the situation will be interesting to see. After all, the French champions are unlikely to have any issues with paying his release clause and would be able to offer him a much more lucrative contract as well.
