The future of Frenkie de Jong could once again become a talking point at Barcelona as we close in on the summer transfer window.

The Catalans could be set for a clearout this summer, as the club look to return to the 1:1 rule and retrieve some of the financial stability. That process could involve the sale of star players such as Frenkie de Jong.

Earlier this year, it was reported that PSG are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the Dutchman, whose contract at Camp Nou expires in 2026.

However, a fresh report from Diario SPORT has claimed that PSG have halted their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.

It appears even the Parisian giants are concerned about potential Financial Fair Play violations, with the squad currently overburdened in terms of salary.

The likely departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid should go a long way in balancing the books, but at the same time, PSG will also require a new attacker.

Focus on Victor Osimhen

PSG have identified Victor Osimhen as the ideal replacement for Mbappe. But signing the Nigerian forward could cost a fortune, which is why PSG are being prudent with their summer activity.

Keeping that in mind, PSG are not focusing on the de Jong pursuit right now. They will prioritise signing a new forward before making other moves in the market.

De Jong, for his part, has remained quiet about his future. But there will be no shortage of suitors should the Dutchman leave Camp Nou in the coming summer.

The report, in fact, mentions Bayern Munich as a potential suitor for de Jong, who may have a decision to make once the season comes to an end.
