According to a report, PSG are interested in signing Frenkie de Jong, a target for Manchester United, this summer.
After Barcelona announced their asking price for the midfielder, it appears that the Dutchman will be leaving the team permanently. Several teams are vying for his signing.
United, Chelsea and Spurs have been linked with a move for the midfielder in the past few days.
When United put out £70 million for De Jong in 2022, the Dutchman nearly signed with the team, but he decided to stay in Spain and battle for his future at the club.
However, it appears that his time there will be ending in the summer, as PSG are reportedly in the running to sign him before the new campaign begins.
SPORT reports that the French champions are prepared to spend up to £68.5 million to capture de Jong, who, given Barcelona’s openness to make deals, will probably be able to choose where he plays next season.
When he turned down United, De Jong had high hopes of ending his rough patch in the team, but things have only gotten worse, and he is now supposedly open to leaving.
United have been eyeing the former Ajax midfielder as players such as Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat have uncertain futures at the club.
It is highly likely that all of them could leave the club in the summer and in that case United would need a worthy replacement.
No other manager knows de Jong better than ten Hag. Both of them spent time together at Ajax where they enjoyed success.
Despite missing two months of the season due to an ankle injury, De Jong has made 16 starts for Barca this season and has only scored once.
With PSG also in the race now and Chelsea seriously considering making a move for de Jong, it is about to get more difficult for United to sign him now.
