PSG have been constantly linked with players from FC Barcelona in recent times and the story is no different heading into the summer.
Links to Gavi refuse to die down while more recently Frenkie de Jong was also touted as a target, although on Saturday, it emerged that the Parisians had ended their interest in the Dutchman.
Now, a fresh update from L’Equipe (h/t Fichajes), PSG have their sights set on two Barcelona central defenders ahead of the summer window.
PSG monitoring Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia
Indeed, as per the report, the Ligue 1 champions are closely monitoring Barcelona defenders Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia ahead of the summer transfer window.
It is claimed that PSG boss Luis Enrique is eager to bolster his options at the heart of the defence after having been affected by injury problems in the department this season.
As such, he has cast his eyes on La Liga for reinforcements with Araujo, Garcia (currently on loan at Girona from Barcelona), and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez all being monitored.
Both Araujo and Garcia could be sold
Araujo has established himself as a mainstay for Barcelona and is one of the four club captains this season.
However, with the club needing a big sale in the summer, the Uruguayan is no longer deemed ‘untouchable’, more so after his error against PSG earlier in the week that cost the Catalans a spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
A fee in excess of €80 million could be expected for Araujo, which is unlikely to be an issue for PSG. Although, it must be noted that Bayern Munich are also interested in the defender.
As for Eric Garcia, the Spaniard has been doing well on loan at Girona, but is unlikely to have a place in Barça’s plans for next season. As such, he could be moved on permanently and Luis Enrique knows him well from the Spanish national team.
It remains to be seen if PSG do make an effort to sign any of the two Barcelona defenders or look at other alternatives.
