As part of the second day of Ligue 1 and for its first at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain did not tremble to easily defeat a non-existent and logically swept Montpellier HSC (6-0). A convincing success that allows Luis Enrique’s men to temporarily take the lead in the French championship. In addition to the positive result of the Rouge et Bleu, this evening especially allowed us to see the prowess of one man: Bradley Barcola (21 years old). Substitute against HAC, last weekend, before finding the back of the net when he came on, the French international (5 caps) was this time present at kick-off. To the great delight of the Parisian supporters…
Lined up on the left wing of the 4-3-3 designed by Luis Enrique, the former Olympique Lyonnais player, in fact, dazzled the Parc with his talent. Speed, dribbling, shifts, defensive involvement, finishing… the 1m82 right-hander was simply unstoppable. A masterclass that began after only four short minutes of play. Perfectly launched in depth by Joao Neves, the Parisian number 29 dropped Enzo Tchato before adjusting Benjamin Lecomte with a shot from the tip of his right foot deflected by the post (1-0, 4th). Confident by this first individual feat, the Lyon native then recited his football with formidable efficiency.
Bradley Barcola had fun
Between very high-speed solo breakthroughs and all kinds of technical moves – some reminiscent of Neymar’s debut in the French capital – Barcola made the Hérault defence live a nightmare. Insatiable offensively, the new darling of the Parc was also decisive in his defensive involvement, like the ball he recovered for the second Parisian goal scored by Marco Asensio (2-0, 24th). A great architect of the convincing first half of the Rouge et Bleu, the Parisian winger maintained this frenetic pace after the break. Alone six metres out after a new run by Ousmane Dembélé, Barcola pushed MHSC further (3-0, 53rd).
Replaced at the hour mark by the latest Parisian recruit, Désiré Doué, the interested party, warmly acclaimed, could then sit down with the feeling of duty accomplished (6 duels won out of 7, 8 small balls lost). An XXL performance analyzed by the main interested party on DAZN : “I really enjoyed myself, the team is doing well. It was perfect. (…) I have freed myself since Euro 2024, I have realised that I can make a difference, I feel good. I have been making breakthroughs since I was very young, it still works, I will continue like this. The second goal? I didn’t know if Ousmane Dembélé was going to give it to me, I positioned myself and scored. It’s perfect.”.
Asked in turn about the performance of the 21-year-old Frenchman, Luis Enrique was also enthusiastic. “Since I’ve known him, since he came to us last year, he has evolved enormously. He continues to be a very interesting player, with incredible speed, but he has a lot of qualities and a very good defensive work. And I see that he is hungry and wants to become a better player. He can bring a lot to the club.”One thing is certain, with Bradley Barcola at this level, the reigning French champions can look to the future with serenity…
