The future of Nuno Mendes at Paris Saint-Germain seemed uncertain a few weeks ago. While the negotiations for its extension were at a standstill, leaving the threat of a departure, the situation took an unexpected turning point. According to recent information from Insider Abdellah Boulma, Portuguese PSG and lateral are now calmly advance towards a contract extension, with a positive outcome in perspective.
A radical change in a few weeks
At the end of December 2024, the situation was however very different. RMC Sport revealed that the discussions between PSG and Nuno Mendes were broken. The player, unhappy with the club's salary proposal, was seriously planned to leave the capital. Manchester United, in particular, had shown concrete interest by subjecting an offer for the 22 -year -old side. PSG, for its part, categorically refused to let it go, still hoping for a favorable outcome.

But since then, the climate has calmed down. Tensions seem to have dissipated, and both parties are now optimistic about the signing of a new agreement. This reversal of the situation could be explained by the club's desire to revalue the initial offer, in recognition of the importance of Mendes in the workforce.

Despite periods of doubt, Nuno Mendes remains a pillar of the Luis Enrique system. Since the start of the 2024/2025 season, he has played 21 games, including 24 as a holder (the figure probably indicates an error in the sources, but the intention is clear). With 1887 minutes played, he is among the most used players of the Parisian workforce, occupying 9th place in terms of playing time.
Under the orders of Luis Enrique, Mendes adopted a more defensive role, which was able to influence his feelings on the ground. Less inclined to plan forward, he nevertheless managed to score a goal and deliver two assists. In 2025, he was already established six times, proving that there was a centerpiece in the Parisian strategy.
An essential extension for PSG
The possible extension of Nuno Mendes would be excellent news for PSG, which seeks to stabilize its workforce with young and efficient players. The Parisian management seems to have understood the importance of securing the future of the Portuguese international, whose current contract runs until 2026.
