PSG: strong words from Jean-Michel Aulas on the departure of Kylian Mbappé

Kylian Mbappé will leave Paris Saint-Germain, there is no longer any doubt about it. After seven years of good and loyal service, the French striker will join Real Madrid in the coming months. Asked about this coming revolution for the capital club and more broadly Ligue 1, Jean-Michel Aulas, former president of OL, however, did not wish to fall into an alarmist speech. “Kylian’s departure is more emotional, I would say, than in the realization of commercial agreements on TV rights. Kylian is indeed an era, but he stayed at PSG for seven years, it’s magnificent. Myself, in the best period of OL when we were champions every year – and we were seven times in succession – no player ever stayed for seven years. And they were often international players. It’s emotionally… But Kylian remains in the French team. And we know his attachment to national events. I hope we will have good news for the Olympic Games (Paris 2024) soon too”first assured the manager in an interview given to RMC Sport.

And to return to the consequences of Mbappé’s departure for Ligue 1. “It’s too early to say. Because today Ligue 1 is of course Kylian but it is also the performances of PSG as such. In life, you must always find an opportunity from a difficulty. Isn’t this the opportunity for PSG – in any case I am convinced, knowing Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi) well and having confidence in his ability to seize a new opportunity – to bring in two or three very great players who will perhaps restore credibility to PSG, perhaps also consistency… I don’t know. In any case, I hope that we transform this difficulty, because it is obviously a colossal one, into an opportunity. And you know, life is often made up of winks: suppose this year is the good one for PSG with Kylian (in the Champions League, editor’s note), we will find it extraordinary to allow Kylian to seize this opportunity and for PSG to fully restart. I hope that this will be a good year for PSG and for Kylian, together”. An ambition inevitably shared by the upper echelons of the Ile-de-France region…
