Luis Enrique may well have won national trophies last season, reached the semi-final of the Champions League, and be at the top of Ligue 1 this season, but he is not unanimous, far from it. His misunderstood management and especially his delicate relationship with the press gave him shock treatment among some of our colleagues in particular. Deemed arrogant and unmodern in his tactical choices, he is regularly criticized by a section of supporters and the media.
Starting with RMCwho had the chance to welcome Vitinha on his show Rothen ignites. And obviously the question of his relationship with Luis Enrique was asked, but not only that. The Portuguese midfielder had to answer multiple questions about his coach. But not sure that the answers stick to the theories put forward by some. Like for example the lack of freedom granted to players. ” No not at all. And it’s not just me, but I’m a bit like the case you see, I have a lot of freedom with him”assures Vitinha, repositioned in number 6 for several months now.
Vitinha loves Luis Enrique
So, is Luis Enrique this coach who imposes his law and who does not listen to the feedback from his flock? Vitinha delivers a completely different version. “He’s my coach, I’m not going to say bad things. In terms of relationships, individually he made me progress, he made me reach a level that I didn’t expect to reach so soon. I expected to achieve this, but not in a year. And he helped me individually to achieve this”he explains, before continuing. “And there you have it, about him, even collectively, I only have good things to say. He talks a lot individually. I like that a lot. I like everything to be very clear”.
We could not count on Vitinha to let any disagreement or tension filter through, he who has become the cornerstone of the Parisian midfielder for more than a year. “It’s true that I identify a lot with his idea of the game too, tactically. It’s hard for me to say something that’s not good. Even on a human level, he is incredible. Afterwards, I also understand that the media could have problems with him…”he concedes. He also judges PSG stronger this season than the previous one, with Mbappé. Just like his trainer, who will be delighted to learn that he can also be praised on this channel…
