Obviously, most football fans are currently looking at Germany and this Euro 2024. But some pretty strong things are happening in the south of Italy at the same time. Indeed, if the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia soap opera seemed to have come to an end with the Italian press announcing an agreement for an extension in Naples, thereby burying any possibility of seeing him sign for PSG, there was a big turnaround.
Mamuka Jugeli, the player’s agent, spoke on Sunday evening to explain that his client wants to leave: “We want to leave Naples, but now we are all waiting for Euro 2024. With Conte, Naples has big plans. I’m sure they will qualify for the Champions League again next season and fight for the Scudetto. But that doesn’t mean that Kvaratskhelia wants to stay there, I don’t think so”. The player’s father also made comments along these lines: “I don’t want him to stay in Naples. Last year, three coaches succeeded one another (Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona, editor’s note) and it is difficult to play in such a situation. He worked with four different coaches in two years, that concerns me a lot”.
Naples bangs its fist on the table
The intentions of the Kvaratskhelia clan are therefore very clear. But those of Napoli too. During the night, a message was published on the Italian team’s X account, with a very clear message on the situation of the 23-year-old player. “In reference to the statements of Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, and his father Badri, Calcio Napoli reiterates that the player has a contract for an additional three years with the club. Kvaratskhelia is not on the market. It is not the agents or the fathers who decide the future of a player under contract with Naples but the club!!! End of the story “we can read there.
A very clear message, and the genesis of a new series which is likely to last all summer. Either way, this is potentially good news for Paris Saint-Germain, whose interest in the player had already been confirmed by the agent in the recent past. Very tough in negotiations, Aurelio de Laurentiis will however be a huge obstacle in this case of replacing Kylian Mbappé…
