It has been over a month since Xavi announced his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season. The Spaniard dropped this bombshell following their heart-wrenching defeat against Villarreal.

“The club needs a change of dynamic,” he announced, before going on to claim that he feels his work has been underappreciated at the club in subsequent press conferences.

Barcelona have been hard at work looking for a replacement for the Spaniard to take over the project since then. Several names have popped up on their agenda, with Hansi Flick and Roberto De Zerbi the favourites to take over, according to reports.

Senior officials at the club have failed to reach a consensus over one name, though, with director Deco claiming that it will not be an easy process.

However, recent reports have suggested that Barcelona have bookmarked Luis Enrique’s name as the ideal replacement. It seems president Joan Laporta and Deco both agree that the current PSG manager is the man for the job and could try to pursue him in the summer.

Lucho is, after all, more than familiar with the club, having spent three seasons as the coach from 2014 to 2017, while winning the treble in his first season in charge.

As reported by MARCA, though, PSG will not make it easy for Barcelona to pursue Enrique in the summer. They are happy with his work and want him to lead the club in the post-Kylian Mbappe era.

PSG have entrusted him with their project, and the manager works in tandem with President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Sporting Director Luis Campos to find and pursue transfer targets for the club.

They have already done a lot of transfer work under him, getting rid of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Sergio Ramos, and Marco Verratti in the summer, while bringing in the the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, and Goncalo Ramos, among others.

PSG are currently leading Ligue 1 by nine points, and are undefeated in their last 20 matches in all competitions. They also have a 2-0 lead over Real Sociedad in the Champions League round of 16 after the first leg, and play the second leg at the Reale Arena tonight.
