PSV Eindhoven have ended their pursuit of Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia due to injury concerns.

That is the word in the press back in his homeland of the Netherlands, where Malacia’s career began at Feyenoord before he made the switch to Manchester United.

The left-back made 22 Premier League appearances in his first season and looked like a prospect for the future. A good squad player at the very least.

However, Malacia missed the entire 2023/24 season with a serious knee injury which required surgery. He suffered numerous setbacks with that and is still recovering from the injury.

For those reasons alone, it doesn’t come as a surprise that clubs are steering clear of Malacia. I just don’t recall much interest being speculated over the summer to the point you would be forgiven for forgetting he even exists.

A report from Soccer News explains PSV’s decision to look elsewhere for a new left-back.

“The left-back of Manchester United seemed like he could be an option, if it hadn’t become clear quite quickly that the former Feyenoord player still needs some time to get fit. That’s why they decided in Eindhoven to drop this option, not to be specific and to switch to other possible reinforcements.”

It would help United if they could find a buyer for Malacia this season, but you can’t blame clubs for avoiding him with his injury record.
