Qatar dominated India on Tuesday in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers (2-1). Not without a totally improbable goal.
The Asian qualifications for the 2026 World Cup gave rise to quite a controversy on Tuesday. Already qualified for the second elimination phase, Qatar got the better of an Indian selection which found itself eliminated after its 2-1 defeat. A rather logical result given the pedigree of the two nations (the 34e in the Fifa ranking against 121e) but a scandal in form.
While the Indians were leading at the start of the 73e minute of play, the so-called Al-Hashmi Al-Hussain played a ball out of bounds after a save by the opposing goalkeeper to offer a decisive pass to Yousef Aymen. An invalid goal therefore, and yet well and truly endorsed by the refereeing body, and in particular the South Korean Woo-sung Kim who saw nothing but fire.
The Indian protests were in vain, and Qatar finally won with a goal from Ahmed Al-Rawi at the end of the match (2-1, 85e), facing a team that was therefore revolted and demobilized.
The president of the Indian Football Federation, Kalyan Chaubey was outraged on social networks, denouncing “
unanswered questions “. The person concerned claims to have contacted Fifa to report this “ serious mistake » and request a “ sports compensation “.
