Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has praised teachers in Gombe State and across Nigeria for their dedication, resilience, and hard work, acknowledging their efforts in moulding the next generation.

He said that quality education cannot be achieved without investing in the well-being and professional development of teachers.

In his goodwill message to mark World Teachers’ Day, on Saturday signed by the Director-General Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, Yahaya noted that teachers are not just educators, but key stakeholders in the development of society.

Our correspondent reports that this year’s theme is “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” Yahaya underscored the vital role teachers play in shaping the future of education and the necessity of incorporating their voices into policy decisions.

“In a world that is constantly evolving, the input of teachers in shaping educational policies is important. The theme of this year’s celebration is a call for all of us to recognize the importance of teachers and to ensure that their voices are heard in decision-making processes,” he said.

Reflecting on the efforts of his administration to improve the welfare of teachers, Yahaya highlighted several initiatives that have been implemented under his leadership.

These include the recruitment of new teachers to address manpower shortages, regular payment of salaries and entitlements, teacher training and capacity-building programmes, as well as improvements in school infrastructure to create better working conditions for educators.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring that teachers in Gombe State are well-supported and motivated. We understand that quality education cannot be achieved without investing in the well-being and professional development of our teachers. This is why we have consistently prioritised their welfare, from timely salary payments to providing opportunities for training and career advancement,” the governor stated.

Yahaya also emphasised his government’s focus on creating a conducive learning environment across the state, through the revitalisation of schools, and the provision of modern teaching aids to boost performance and productivity across all levels of the education sector in the state.

He stressed that the state’s commitment to education reform is in tune with the theme of the day by recognizing that teachers must be at the heart of these efforts.

While reaffirming his government’s commitment to building a robust educational system that prioritizes the welfare of its educators, the Governor urged all stakeholders to continue to support teachers, ensuring that their voices are valued.

“On this special day, I extend warm wishes to the leadership of the Gombe State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT and all teachers in the state for their hard work, patience, and dedication. Together, let us build a future where education is shaped by those who know it best—our teachers,” Yahaya said.
