Renowned producer Ramesh Taurani has confirmed that Saif will reprise his role in the fourth instalment of the beloved action series ‘Race.’ The founder of Tips Films expressed enthusiasm about bringing Saif Ali Khan back into the franchise, stating that ‘Race 4’ will feature him leading a star-studded ensemble cast, with filming set to commence in 2025.

Race 4 producer confirms Saif Ali Khan in the series

“Saif Ali Khan is returning in Race 4, the action franchise, and we are thrilled to have him on board. He excelled in the first two films,” Ramesh Taurani shared with PTI. “The upcoming film will feature a strong ensemble cast, and we are currently finalizing both the script and the cast.” He added that the director for the film has yet to be decided. “We will make an official announcement about the film before production begins, likely next year,” he noted.

Since its inception in 2008 with the original ‘Race’ starring Saif and Akshaye Khanna as the embroiled siblings Ranvir and Rajiv, the franchise has become synonymous with thrilling action, lavish settings, and intricate storytelling. Saif also reprised his role in the 2013 sequel, Race 2, introducing John Abraham as the antagonist. Both films were major hits, earning favourable critiques.

The third instalment, Race 3 took a different direction with a new cast led by Salman Khan. Taurani emphasized that it would be misleading to label ‘Race 3’ as a failure at the box office. “The third film actually outperformed the previous two at the box office. While we projected earnings of ₹200 to 250 crore, it grossed over ₹180 crore, which is still noteworthy,” he explained. “For us, it was a profitable venture. The primary difference is that the first two films received better critical reception. Whereas the third did not fare well and we are committed to ensuring the fourth part excels.”

Upcoming projects of Tips Film

Additionally, Taurani shared plans for a sequel to the 1998 action film ‘Soldier,’ featuring Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta. “We’re excited about developing ‘Soldier 2,’ as it has strong franchise potential. The script is currently in the works,” he revealed.

Up next for Tips Films is a movie with filmmaker David Dhawan and his actor son Varun Dhawan, as well as ‘Maalik,’ headlined by Rajkummar Rao. Billed as a family entertainer, the untitled movie marks the third collaboration between the father-son duo after ‘Main Tera Hero’ and the reboot of ‘Coolie No. 1’. Meanwhile, ‘Maalik’ is an action thriller directed by filmmaker Pulkit, known for Bhakshak.

Taurani expressed optimism about both productions. “Both films are currently in production. We have a great relationship with David ji; we’ve previously worked together on ‘Kunwara’ and ‘Coolie No. 1.’ The moment he pitched us the story, we were on board, as we loved the concept. Rajkummar is an exceptional actor and is sure to shine in his first action role,” he concluded.
