Rachel Morrison Signs With Range

EXCLUSIVE: Director and cinematographer Rachel Morrison has signed with Range Media Partners. Morrison made history when she became the first woman ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Dee Rees’s Mudbound in 2018. A highly celebrated DP, Morrison served as cinematographer for both Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station and Black Panther, where she became the first woman to have lensed a Marvel superhero film. She also worked as a DP on Rick Famiyuwa’s Dope and Daniel Barnz’s Cake, among many others.

Morrison’s feature directorial debut The Fire Inside from Amazon MGM Studios, is slated for wide theatrical release on December 25, 2024. Written by Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins and starring Ryan Destiny and Brian Tyree Henry, the film is based on the true story of Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan who at 17 became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport, only to discover that not all dreams are created equal.

On the television side, Morrison recently wrapped on multiple episodes of Apple TV+’s The Savant starring Jessica Chastain, and has previously directed episodes of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and FX’s American Crime Story: Impeachment. Additionally, Morrison helmed the pilot and first block of Starz’s Hightown and returned to direct key episodes of its second season.

Over the years, Morrison has garnered numerous awards and accolades for her work including two Outstanding Cinematography Emmy nominations and the Kodak Vision Award from Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards and has been included on prominent lists such as GLAMOUR’s 35 Under 35 Hollywood Edition.

Morrison continues to be represented by CAA for directing, UTA for cinematography, and lawyer Tara Kole.
