Rahm Emanuel is joining CNN as senior political and global affairs commentator, making his first appearance on the network on a segment today.

Emanuel served as U.S. ambassador to Japan during Joe Biden‘s administration, after previous stints as an Illinois congressman and mayor of Chicago. He also was the first White House chief of staff to President Barack Obama.

Emanuel is one of the first Biden administration officials to land a cable news gig, something that is typical after there is a change in administrations.

Emanuel is the brother of Ari Emanuel, the CEO of Endeavor. Before winning a congressional seat, Rahm Emanuel served as senior adviser for policy and politics for President Bill Clinton.
