Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully tracked and recovered 104 mobile phones worth Rs 21 lakh that were either lost or stolen by rail passengers. This was done using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The retrieved phones have since been returned to their rightful owners.

The CEIR portal was introduced by the GRP in April 2024 to assist in tracking lost or stolen phones. According to officials, a total of 210 mobile phones were recovered between April and July. In just the last two months, another 104 phones were traced, showcasing the portal’s effectiveness.

To enhance the recovery process, special teams have been formed across the railway police district. These teams work on tracing devices reported as lost through official complaints and applications submitted via Meeseva, all using the CEIR portal.

GRP officials have urged passengers to stay vigilant and take care of their belongings while traveling. They advised that in case of mobile phone theft, passengers should immediately block their phone’s IMEI number through the CEIR portal by visiting www.ceir.gov.in. Alternatively, they can report the theft at the nearest police station, where officers can assist in blocking the IMEI.
