Veteran actor and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently opened up about a terrifying chapter from his past, recalling a harrowing shooting incident that left a lasting impact on his life. Describing the experience as a “bad dream,” Roshan admitted that he once lived in constant fear, not just of external threats but also of the very security meant to protect him.
Rakesh Roshan Feared Getting Killed
In a conversation with ANI, the esteemed filmmaker revealed that following the attack on him in 2000, he was provided with armed security personnel for protection. However, rather than feeling reassured, Roshan confessed that he remained anxious, worried that a misfire or an accident could endanger his life.
“No matter how many security personnel are around you, you are still an open target. If someone wants to harm you, security personnel won’t be able to do anything,” he stated. Despite the additional protection, Roshan could not shake off the lingering unease.
Recalling his daily routine at the time, he explained that the security guards would sit in the backseat while he occupied the front of the car. Instead of finding comfort in their presence, the thought of armed men sitting behind him with loaded weapons only heightened his fear. The constant awareness of the guns around him made him feel more vulnerable rather than safe.
Even in his personal time, Roshan felt the weight of his security detail. He shared that during his routine beach walks, the guards would follow him closely, making him feel trapped rather than protected. This claustrophobic existence eventually took a toll on him, prompting him to make a bold decision. He requested the removal of his security detail, choosing instead to live freely without the ever-present anxiety that came with it.
“Even while walking on the beach, I kept questioning the need for such heavy security. Eventually, I asked for them to be withdrawn. I decided that whatever happens, I’ll deal with it,” he admitted.
Rakesh Roshan has made an indelible mark in Bollywood, directing several iconic films, including Khoon Bhari Maang, Karan Arjun, and Koyla. He has also played a pivotal role in shaping the career of his son, Hrithik Roshan, with projects like Koi… Mil Gaya and the Krrish series.
Recently, the Roshan family has been in the limelight with the release of The Roshans, a docu-series now streaming on Netflix. Featuring Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, and Rajesh Roshan, the series offers an intimate look into their lives, their cinematic legacy, and the challenges they have faced over the years.
