Ralf Rangnick has poured cold water on the speculation surrounding his potential return to club football, with Bayern Munich reportedly eager to seek his advice.

The former Manchester United interim boss has been named as a possible candidate for the Bayern Munich job, with his previous coaching stints in Germany garnering attention from the Bundesliga’s biggest club.

Bayern are looking to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer and Rangnick has been named as one of the possible candidates for the job.

When asked about the links to Bayern Munich or returning to club football, Rangnick told Sport 1 (via Express): “No. Why should I? I feel comfortable here. I still have a contract until 2026 and our goal and our path will continue after the Euros.”

Rangnick’s most recent coaching job in Germany came at RB Leipzig, where he also served as the global sporting director for Red Bull, which is where he built his reputation and showcased a wealth of experience in the sport.

The German took over as interim manager of United in December 2021 following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal. He faced a challenging task with a struggling squad that was fully aware his spell at the club was only temporary. Few of them listened to his instructions as a result.

Rangnick recorded a poor record of 11 wins, 9 draws and 9 losses in his 29 matches in charge. Those times won’t be remembered fondly even if he said some home truths about the club needing open heart surgery. That’s why several fans wanted to see him fulfil a consultancy role with United. Instead, he left Old Trafford under a grey cloud. Presumably, because he said too much about the way the Glazers were running the football club.

Bayern have had a terrible season, despite beating United home and away in the Champions League earlier this season.

Rangnick is focused on his job with Austria rather than returning to club football. The international scene is more relaxed, so it probably suits him at this stage of his career.

The 65-year-old is set to guide Austria to Euro 2024.

Let us know in the comments section if you would take Rangnick back in any capacity.
