An essential element of Real Madrid and the French team for almost ten years, Raphaël Varane (30 years old) has had a career rich in trophies and matches. If this is not over for the current Manchester United player, he can already take stock of the good and the less good. During an interview given to The Teamhe spoke about a subject that impacted his performance and his state of health, that of concussions. “When we look at three of the worst matches of my career, there are at least two before which I had a concussion a few days earlier: against Germany in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup (0- 1), and with Real Madrid against Manchester City in the round of 16 of the 2020 Champions League (1-2)”he first admitted.

If he didn't talk about it sooner, it's because the subject of concussions was still little-known in the world of football. “In ten years, I have never wanted to talk about it because it can be like an apology and I never wanted it to look like one, because it is not the case (…) It’s all weak continuation of saying that we are tired, that we have migraines or eye fatigue”, he clarified. Today, there is still a taboo on the subject, but Varane wants to put the question of the players' health on the table and protect them, starting with his son, who follows in his father's footsteps. “My 7-year-old son plays football, and I advise him not to head. For me, it’s essential”explained Varane.
