The Rapid Response Unit of the Forestry Commission has destroyed four excavators in an early dawn swoop on some galamsey sites in the Atiwa Range Forest, today.

Four excavators being used in the illegal mining activities were destroyed during the operation by the Rapid Response Teams.

No arrests were made. Officers say the illegal miners fled the scene before the team got there.

The Forestry Commission, under their new CEO, Dr Hughes Brown, has issued a strong warning to “Forest wreckers, that the Commission will not relent in its efforts to rid the Nation's Forest Reserves of these criminal activities.”

He has pledged support for the Rapid Response Unit urging them to carry the fight to the criminal gangs operating in Forest Reserves and other Protected Areas.
