Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has been reported to La Liga by Getafe for allegedly insulting Mason Greenwood, a player on loan from Manchester United.

The England international midfielder played in La Liga on Thursday against rivals Real in the Spanish capital. Carlo Ancelotti’s side won 2-0, thanks to a double from Joselu, and now occupy first place in the table.

Bellingham could have to answer for this contest after he was filmed targeting Getafe striker Greenwood. The Madrid star reportedly called the player on loan from Manchester United a “rapist” after an altercation near the touchline which ended in a combative tackle. La Cadena SER claims that this comment was reported to the La Liga delegate present after the final whistle.

Bellingham has gone too far

According to Cadena SER, Getafe requested that the incident be included in the match report and that the matter be investigated. He reportedly asked La Liga to “take appropriate action” if an offense had been committed. Former La Liga referee Iturralde Gonzalez told Cadena SER what could happen from now on: “ You can be sanctioned if you really say that, but if Getafe wants to defend their player, what they can do is take the matter to the Competition Commission. The League will do what it has to do, but they can go to the Competition Commission with these images and accuse him of what he said.”.

Greenwood – who had allegations of attempted rape, assault and coercive control dropped in February 2023 – is on loan for a season at Getafe during the 2023-24 campaign. His original club Man Utd are expected to make a decision on his long-term future in the summer transfer window.
