Rapper FatMan Scoop Dies at 53 After Collapsing on Stage During Connecticut Concert

FatMan Scoop has sadly died.

On Friday night (August 30), the 53-year-old rapper, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, collapsed mid-performance on stage at the Green & Gold Party in Hamden, Conn.

He was then rushed to the hospital and the next morning, his family confirmed that he had passed away.

Keep reading to find out more…“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” the rapper’s family wrote on Instagram. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

“FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend,” the message continued. “He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”

His family wrote, “FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

“As we mourn the loss of FatMan Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and countless lives he touched,” his family concluded. “FatMan Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.”

During the concert, FatMan Scoop was in the middle of a performance when he suffered a medical emergency. In videos shared on social media, FatMan Scoop could be seen going shirtless while hyping out the crowd before stepping up to the DJ booth’s and collapsed out of view of the audience.

People could then be seen performing chest compressions on FatMan Scoop behind the screen of the DJ as other performers came out on stage and led the audience in prayer. He was then stretchered off the stage and transported to a local hospital, according to the New York Post.

FatMan Scoop‘s official cause of death has not been publicly revealed yet.

The rapper was known for his guest spots on songs including Missy Elliot‘s “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey‘s “I Like That.”
