’Reached verbal agreement’: Huge Man Utd U-Turn breaks as Mathys Tel agrees £50.1m transfer

Manchester United are poised to miss out on target Mathys Tel – despite the Bayern Munich wantaway favouring a move to Old Trafford.

Indeed, the United faithful better brace themselves for disappointment, as Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg has confirmed there’s now a ‘verbal agreement’ in place between Tel and Tottenham Hotspur.

The package is worth £50.1 million, which is perhaps where the Red Devils have fallen short of the mark, as there was a slim chance they’d be able to pursue the player for a permanent transfer this month. All reports suggested United had a loan in mind, primarily because of the £25m they’re about to pay Lecce upfront for Patrick Dorgu. 

Now, Ruben Amorim will be keeping his fingers crossed that Alejandro Garnacho stays put. Losing the Argentine livewire, who’s proven to be one of the side’s most prolific attackers this campaign, with no replacement lined up, would be detrimental.
