Fans had planned a protest for the end of their League One clash with Port Vale, however supporters couldn't hide their feelings from the very start of the contest.

Chants of 'Get out of our club' and 'we want Dai Yongge out' were followed by hundreds of tennis balls being thrown onto the pitch at Reading's home ground.

The Royals' media team released a message on social media. It read: "We are fully aware of and understand our supporters’ frustrations, but we must reiterate to our supporters that entering or throwing items onto the pitch can put the fixture at risk of abandonment and can result in personal consequences including banning orders.

"Thank you for your support today."

But that didn't stop fans, with many storming onto the pitch with banners and flares after 16 minutes, leading to play being suspended as a result.

Even the travelling Valiants fans joined in the protests as they were heard chanting: "Get out of their club."

It was then followed by another three messages to fans to leave the field of play, before the match was ultimately abandoned.

Reading have already been hit with a four-point deduction this season after an initial one-point penalty for failing to pay players on time was added to with a further three-point penalty.

The club have suffered deductions totaling 16 points since 2021.

The frustration of the fans boils down to Yongge’s financial mismanagement of the club, with the Reading owner investing over £200million in the hope of securing promotion to the Premier League.

However, with seismic losses in the club’s accounts and an inability to pay the wages of the players, staff members, suppliers and HMRC who have issued multiple winding-up petitions, it’s clear to see why the Reading fans are so concerned about the state of their club.
