Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Kylian Mbappe with the French superstar realising a childhood dream in joining Los Blancos.

In one of the biggest transfers in recent years, the France captain has signed a x year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, with one of the worse-kept secrets in football confirmed on Monday just days after Real’s Champions League victory.

The 25-year-old joins the Spanish champions on a free transfer having left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract.

While Real have not paid a transfer fee, Mbappe’s arrival will come at a huge price with the forward banking a signing-on fee of £128million.

He becomes the highest-paid player in the Real squad – ahead of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr – on a deal worth £12.8m per season having also agreed a deal that will see him secure a large percentage of his image rights.

Mbappe will officially become a Real Madrid player when the transfer window opens on 1 July but is expected to be unveiled by the club this week, before Euro 2024 begins.

It finally completes one of the most protracted transfers in recent memory. Real Madrid were initially eager to sign Mbappe as he emerged as one of the game’s most talented players while at Monaco.

PSG secured his services in 2017, however, signing him for £165m – a transfer fee only eclipsed by the £222m the Parisians paid for Neymar that same summer.

Real attempted to sign Mbappe three years later only for PSG to turn down an £188m offer with the forward going onto sign a new three-year deal.

A move to Spain beckoned again a year later only for Mbappe to again make a dramatic U-turn and sign a contract extension with PSG, prompting Real to file a complaint over FFP rules being broken.

Over the next 12 months, Mbappe’s relationship with PSG soured and last year confirmed he would not be extending his contract in the French capital beyond 2024.

He now joins an-already fearsome attack in Madrid alongside Vincius Jr, Bellingham and Rodrygo with Brazilian sensation Endrick also arriving this summer.
