Real Madrid defender praises Barcelona trident

Barcelona and Real Madrid’s rivalry has been known to be one of the most intense rivalries in football history, stemming from historical, cultural, and political roots.

Due to the rivalry transcending mere competition on the field, it breeds strained relationships among players from both camps.

However, oftentimes the Spanish national team provides temporary respite for Barcelona and Real Madrid players, as they must put aside their differences and share a common goal of triumphing together.

This was most recently encapsulated in Dani Carvajal’s words of appraisal toward Barcelona’s youngsters, who earned call-ups to the Spanish national team after their string of strong performances at Barça.

Commending Cubarsi

Carvajal first praised Cubarsi, eulogising his ability to disguise himself as a veteran despite being a mere teenager.

The 17-year-old Barcelona prodigy made his debut for La Roja this past week, featuring as a substitute in the friendly against Colombia.

Congratulating him on his debut, the Real Madrid full-back claimed Cubarsi is well placed to secure a spot in the Euros if he can keep up this trajectory.

“I congratulated Cubarsi on his debut. He is a very young boy, but this was not shown during training and in the minutes he played against Colombia. Pau is one of the candidates to be in the squad for the EURO,” Carvajal commended.

Chances based on merit

Carvajal then went on to justify the inclusion of Barcelona youngsters like Lamine Yamal, Gavi, or Cubarsi, stating that the coach disregards factors such as age or background when calling them up.

“Lamine, Gavi or Cubarsí give the level when they play for the first team. The coach does not look at your age or where you come from.

“The player who is here comes for his performance and they show their performance,” the 32-year-old full-back pointed out.

Cubarsi and Yamal could be in action tomorrow at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu as Spain take on Brazil in an international friendly.
