Real Madrid did not tremble. Opposed this Monday to the modest Deportiva Minera in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, Carlo Ancelotti’s men held their position perfectly by winning 5-0. A controlled success from start to finish, which confirms the rise in power of the Merengue before their departure for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Real, too powerful for Minera
Real took charge from the kick-off. Faithful to his methodical approach, Ancelotti had fielded a reshuffled but serious team, where Luka Modrić, starter, dictated the tempo. And it was another executive, Fede Valverde, who launched the hostilities with an unstoppable volley. In the process, Eduardo Camavinga, in great form, doubled the lead with a header from a precise cross from Fran García.
The Madrid festival did not stop there. Before the break, Turkey’s Arda Güler dazzled the audience with an individual action marked by his liveliness and precision, concluded with a slightly deflected shot. Almost a year to the day after his debut with the Castilians, the former Fenerbahçe player was making the rounds. At 3-0, Real had already folded the match, perfectly controlling a valiant but overwhelmed opponent.
A demonstration before the Spanish Super Cup
In the second half, the Madrilenians continued their domination. Modrić, still at the heart of the game, sealed the victory with a fourth goal after a collective movement initiated by Brahim Díaz. Finally, Guler came to offer himself a double towards the end, adding a little more shine to this already brilliant success. Entering the game, the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé could also have participated in this festival, but he did not convert the two good chances he had in front of the opposing goals (74th and 91st).
If Deportivo Minera leaves the competition, its journey will remain memorable. After eliminating Alavés, this fourth division team was able to conquer hearts with their courage and commitment. But against a concentrated and efficient Real Madrid, there was no room for exploits.
The Merengues, for their part, continue their journey in this Coupe du Roi with a clear objective: final victory. But before that, another mission awaits them: the Spanish Super Cup, which they will play in Saudi Arabia. A decisive week for the Madrid club, determined to enrich its record at the start of the year.
