Real Madrid will not go to market to strengthen their midfield this summer, despite two of their veterans being out of contract at the end of the season.
This is partly because the club has already decided to offer a new contract to German midfielder Toni Kroos. The 34-year-old has remained one of Real’s best midfielders this season, alongside Fede Valverde, and, despite an injury crisis before Christmas, has maintained the club’s form. La Cadena SER reports that Kroos has secured a new contract with Los Blancos, who will offer him a one-year renewal. The Merengue are convinced that Kroos will remain an indisputable starter and that he will want to continue playing.
Modric towards the exit
On the other hand, Luka Modric is not in the same situation. Despite his qualities, his lack of playing time suggests an exit, and he will not be offered a new lease. The 38-year-old finished last season as a key piece for Carlo Ancelotti, but has lost his place this season with Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouameni given more playing time.
With the left-back position being one of Los Blancos’ main targets this summer, Camavinga is unlikely to be used as often as he has been, which will likely reduce the need to replace Modric. Additionally, Dani Ceballos has been used sparingly this season and could undoubtedly replace the legendary Croatian.
