The possible arrival of Erling Haaland at Real Madrid seems more and more compromised. According to A.S.Pep Guardiola’s recent contract extension until 2026 would have convinced the Norwegian striker to stay at Manchester City, where he is linked until 2027. Clauses in his initial contract suggested that a departure was possible at the summer 2024 for 180 million euros, but this option now seems to be moving away. Haaland, author of 105 goals in 114 games with the Citizens, is even in discussions to extend until 2029, according to The Mirror.
A record increase for a key role
The proposed new contract would include a revised release clause of 200 million euros and a pay rise that would make Haaland one of the highest paid players in the Premier League, at 31 million euros annually. The move marks a strong signal from Manchester City to lock down their star striker, who has already been the Premier League’s top scorer twice and helped win the 2023 Champions League.
