Real miracle!

In the aftermath of the heroic qualification of PSG against Liverpool, Parisian supporters certainly carefully followed the eighth finals return from the Champions League between Real Madrid and Atlético on Wednesday evening. As in Anfield, the Madrid derby was played during a penalty shootout at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and it was the Merengues who snatched their passage in the quarter -finals to challenge Arsenal. Kylian Mbappé could therefore find his former Parisian teammates in the event of qualification of the two clubs concerned in the last square!

2-1 winner in Bernabéu last week, the training of Carlo Ancelotti really did not achieve a great performance in the overheated lair of the Colchoneros and lost 1-0 the return round. The men of Diego Simeone opened the scoring almost on the start to restore the two teams tied to the cumulative score. A center of Rodrigo de Paul pierced Raul Asencio and Conor Gallagher shot Thibaut Courtois near (1st).

Real helped by arbitration?

Antoine Griezmann and his teammates then lacked opportunities to double the bet and therefore go ahead. Very little dangerous, Kylian Mbappé came out of his box after the hour of play by eliminating José Maria Giménez and Clément Lenglet to provoke the fault of the French defender (68th). But Vinicus completely missed his penalty by hitting above (70th)! In overtime, “Vini” then took a huge soap from Jude Bellingham (105th) and was even released by his Italian coach before penalties by Endrick (116th) …

The penalty shootout, launched by Mbappé, turned in favor of Real but is marked by a new arbitration controversy. Julian Alvarez was denied his Peno by the Var for having touched the ball twice without the (many) slow motion demonstrating that the attacker slightly touched the ball from the left before his strike. Marcos Llorente came across Thibaut Courtois on the 4th attempt by Atlético and Antonio Rüdiger sent Real to the quarterfinals.
