Last summer, Thibaut Courtois suffered one of the worst injuries for a footballer: the torn cruciate ligament in his left knee. After long months of convalescence and rehabilitation, he thought he would return at the beginning of spring, but a new meniscus injury took him away from the field again in March. However, the Belgian was able to come back very quickly and very strong. Having become a starter again at the end of the La Liga season, the 32-year-old goalkeeper has still not conceded a single goal in four games after making 17 saves. In the columns of A.S.the goalkeeper explains his express and successful return to Spanish territory.

“When it happened in August, the first day was very hard, very hard. Because the doctor told me the season was almost over. I was unlucky enough that they had to sew my meniscus back together, which means you can’t bend your knee more than 90 degrees…and you know the meniscus takes another three or four months. (…) I know myself well, I know that I can do many things and, therefore, I have never lost this mental faith that I will be the same as before, or even better. (…) There was the unknown of this match against Cadiz but, once we played the first, the second arrived and I had the impression of forever, as if I had never left. I like being able to convey this security and tranquility to the coach and teammates”, described Thibaut Courtois to the press. He can now claim the Champions League final on Saturday evening against Dortmund.
