Regina King Joins Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz In Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Caught Stealing’

EXCLUSIVE: Academy Award winner Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) has signed on to star alongside Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz in Caught Stealing, Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller for Sony Pictures, based on the books by Charlie Huston.

Adapted for the screen by Huston, the film follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s NYC. Details as to King’s role are under wraps. Aronofsky’s Protozoa is producing.

The winner of an Academy Award and numerous other accolades for her supporting turn in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, King has also won four Emmys for her work on series including Watchmen, American Crime, and Seven Seconds. Most recently, she portrayed America’s first Black Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm in writer-director John Ridley’s Netflix pic Shirley, also exec producing and directing on David E. Kelley’s Netflix show A Man in Full, based on the novel by Tom Wolfe.

The recipient of Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and DGA Award nominations for her work on her feature directorial debut One Night in Miami, based on the play from Kemp Powers, she’ll next direct and exec produce the Judy Blume adaptation Forever with showrunner Mara Brock Akil for Netflix.

Headed up by Aronofsky and partner Ari Handel, Protozoa is coming off of Aronofsky’s A24 drama The Whale, which brought Brendan Fraser his first Oscar for Best Actor, as well as the groundbreaking experience Postcard from Earth created for MSG’s Sphere in Las Vegas. Recently, the company also signed on to produce a feature adaptation of 19-year-old Harvard student Wesley Wang’s short Nothing, Except Everything, which landed at TriStar Pictures in a competitive situation.

King is repped by CAA, John Carrabino Management, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.
