Today, Reolink unveiled its latest home security camera, the Atlas PT Ultra, which it’s touting as the world’s first 4K continuous recording camera.

The Altas PT Ultra promises Reolink’s proprietary ColorX Night Vision. According to the company’s claims, the night mode captures enough exposure and detail to make the day and night footage look almost the same. All recording is done in 4K Ultra High Definition and “all-around security” is promised with the help of a 360-degree rotating camera. 512 GBs of local storage ensures there’s enough space for all your footage and a whopping 20,000 mAh battery gives you an entire week’s usage in a single charge.

The Atlas PT Ultra works on a dual-band Wi-Fi system offering 2.4 and 5 GHz options. It mentions that the 5 GHz option is recommended for improved range and less interference, but support for 2.4 GHz serves as a nice backup. With Smart Detection Auto Tracking, the camera will detect motion and quickly rotate its lens toward anything unusual that it senses.

I’m going to spend a few days with it before I pen down a review, but I have been testing it, and my hands-on experience has been quite hassle-free so far.

With the app, you can trigger an audio alarm on the camera or use the Talk button to talk through the built-in speaker. The speaker itself is pretty barebones and very tinny but is sufficiently loud to get the job done. There’s also a set of six (very) bright LED lights right under the lens on the camera which you can trigger with the flashlight icon on the app.

A PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) control on the app takes you to a steering wheel-looking control that you can navigate as you like and have it translate to the camera head moving in real-time. A playback button shows you the entire recorded footage in case you need to pull a specific moment out. So far, the Atlas PT Ultra has given me no complaints. It features an easy setup and a host of in-app options. I’m looking forward to testing its night vision and battery life which I’ll elaborate on in a future review.
