A retired Comptroller of Prisons, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, has called on President Bola Tinubu to replicate the ongoing military operations in Zamfara in Benue State.
Ihagh, who is also the President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide and the Chairman of three socio-cultural groups in Benue State – Mdzough U Tiv, Ochetoha K’Idoma and Omi Ny’Igede, speaking to our correspondent in Makurdi on Sunday, said if this is done, it will curtail the activities of bandits in some troubled areas in the state.
He applauded the Federal Government over the military operations in Zamfara State, saying that the operations have succeeded in tackling the activities of terrorists and bandits in the country.
Ihagh also lamented that Benue had experienced insecurity for more than 10 years such that a day hardly passes by without the bandits killing rural people in one area of the state or another.
“The intervention by the military which reportedly degraded the operational capacity of the bandits was said to have been ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the safeguarding of the lives and property of the Zamfara people. We want the president to replicate such success in Benue.
“We are making a passionate appeal to Mr. President to give us security in Benue. The president has done well for us in the state as we can see in his good works (infrastructures). The government exist to provide social amenities and security. Benue is the food basket of the nation and once we don’t farm, there is bound to be hunger in the country,” he said.
Ihagh pointed out that Kwande, Agatu, Gwer West and Guma LGs among many others had been taken over by the bandits who drove the inhabitants from their ancestral homes, stressing the need for the federal government to take additional measures to restore normalcy in the affected area.
“We are begging the federal government to send away these bandits from Benue and other affected states of the country so that the people can return to their homes and their age-long practice of agriculture. As it is now, Nigeria is pregnant and can deliver anytime if the insecurity is not taken care of”, the group posited.
