AEW is reportedly no longer planning to hold their interpromotional Forbidden Door pay-per-view at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
In February, Andrew Zarian confirmed PWInsider‘s report that the tennis stadium was the planned venue for this year’s Forbidden Door event.
In an update, speaking on his Beyond the Bell podcast on Fightful, Zarian reported that this was no longer the plan. He noted that more information about the shoe would be shared in about a week. (H/t Robert DeFelice of Fightful)
Fightful Select reported that NJPW did not want to split the high production costs of running that venue.
Rocky Romero then denied the report and said that NJPW’s relationship with AEW was stronger than ever.
AEW and NJPW held the first Forbidden Door at the United Center in Chicago in 2022. The 2023 event emanated from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
