Barcelona are preparing for an intense summer as some key changes to the squad are expected both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

It means there could be some notable changes in the kit numbers that players wear for the new season and Mundo Deportivo has brought forward an update on the possible changes to the squad numbers that might happen.

Ansu Fati to reclaim the No. 10

One of the biggest questions heading into the next season is who will wear the No. 10 jersey at Barcelona.

The shirt was handed to Ansu Fati after Lionel Messi’s exit back in 2021 but the youngster endured difficult seasons wearing it. Last year, the jersey was left vacant when the La Masia ace left on loan.

Now back at the club, all signs point towards Fati reclaiming the No. 10 shirt even though there has been talk of Lamine Yamal donning the iconic shirt.

What about Yamal then?

Yamal was still on a youth-team contract last season and wore the No. 27 shirt. But the youngster has signed a new contract and will be registered as a first-team player for the new campaign with a first-team number.

Even though there were talks of him becoming the next No. 10, MD reports that Yamal could be handed the No. 17 shirt for next season which has become vacant after Marcos Alonso’s departure.

Any other changes?

The No. 2 shirt is now without an occupant after Joao Cancelo’s loan spell came to an end. The Portuguese should take it again if re-signed while Julian Araujo could be an option as well. Hector Fort will continue with a reserve-team contract and will not have a first-team number.

Marc Casado could be handed the No. 20 shirt if Sergi Roberto is indeed not renewed. The captain’s contract has expired and his renewal is subject to the Financial Fair Play conditions, a situation similar to that of Lionel Messi in 2021.

Mika Faye, another reserve team player set to be promoted to the senior setup, could take the No. 12 shirt that has been vacant since after the 2021/22 season when Martin Braithwaite wore it.
