Journalist Toni Juanmarti from SPORT has confirmed that Jules Kounde is eager to join the Barcelona squad for their pre-season tour in the United States.

It must be noted that after France’s elimination from the European Championship, Kounde wasted no time heading to the Barça Training Ground. Interestingly, he was not there to train, but to meet the new coach, Hansi Flick, before starting his holidays.

During this meeting, the French defender made it clear that he wanted to be part of the tour in America, even though Flick advised him to take a break until the team returned.

Flick’s words to Kounde

France’s elimination from the competition was confirmed on July 9 and according to UEFA, the next day was considered a working day, which meant the French players’ holidays officially started on July 11.

Instead of heading straight for a vacation, Kounde spent two days at the Ciutat Esportiva, on July 11 and 12. He took this time to greet his teammates, get acquainted with the new coaching staff, and have an important conversation with Flick about his wish to go on the U.S. tour.

Flick, understanding the physical and mental toll of a long season and the European Championship, suggested that Kounde should rest for at least three weeks.

He explained that it would be best for the defender to join the team after their return from the United States. This plan would allow Kounde to recuperate alongside other key players who are set to join later.

Kounde’s determination is noteworthy

Despite Flick’s recommendation, Kounde remained resolute in his desire to join the tour. He planned to fly to America on August 1, even though the pre-season training would already be underway.

This decision would allow him nearly three weeks of vacation, balancing rest and his eagerness to be with the team.

Kounde’s commitment means he will likely only participate in the last friendly match of the U.S. tour against Milan, scheduled for the early hours of August 6-7.

Although his chances of playing in this game are slim, his determination to be present and ready to support his team is clear.
