According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, it looks like 18-year-old Dani Rodriguez, a talented winger for Barcelona, has decided to renew his contract with the club.

This decision comes despite strong interest from both Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, who were keen on signing the young player. Hence, if there are no last-minute changes, the youngster will continue wearing the royal blue Blaugrana.

A five-year extension

Rodriguez has been gearing up for the European Under-19 Championship for the past two weeks and during this time, he reportedly agreed to the club’s latest offer, which extends his stay for another five seasons.

It must be noted that the 18-year-old joined Barcelona in 2020 when he was just 14 years old, coming from Real Sociedad. His current contract expired this summer, and although Barcelona had an option to extend his contract unilaterally for two more years, this clause expired on June 30.

To secure his future with the club, Barcelona presented him with a new proposal that included better financial terms and more opportunities on the field, considering his impressive performance and development.

Good relationships at work

Rodriguez’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has a strong relationship with Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta and this close connection likely played a part in the smooth negotiation process.

Over the past season, the winger has split his time between the Juvenil team and Barça Atletic, despite dealing with some injuries. He made a significant impact in the Youth League, contributing with goals and assists.

Interestingly, both Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao were very interested in signing him. They even offered him the chance to join their first team for pre-season training.

However, he has always prioritised staying with Barcelona, showing a strong desire to continue his development at the club. His commitment to Barcelona is evident, as he believes that staying with the team will help him grow further as a player.
