As Barcelona prepare for one of their most pivotal summer transfer windows, sporting director Deco finds himself facing a gargantuan challenge.

Given the club’s financial situation, signing players will be a challenge unless there is some major cash inflow which will boost the Catalans’ Fair Play margin.

Despite the expected challenges, Barcelona are pressing ahead with their planning and have identified three priority targets for the summer transfer window, reports SPORT.

Joao Cancelo

One of the biggest priority for Barcelona is ensuring the continuity of Joao Cancelo by signing him permanently from Manchester City. The right-back has become an integral member of the team since joining on loan last summer and has made it clear that he wishes to stay.

Reaching an agreement with City over a final fee could be a challenge for reports suggest that the Premier League champions want €40 million for the Portuguese international, something Barça cannot offer at this point.

If that is not possible, Barcelona would like to sign a different high-level full-back to reinforce the right-back position.

A new pivot midfielder

A position that has been a priority since last summer when Sergio Busquets left, Barcelona will again enter into the market for a top-level pivot midfielder this year too.

The Oriol Romeu experiment has simply not worked and even though Andreas Christensen has done well playing as a defensive midfielder, the idea is for the club to rope in a new, top player for the position, with links to the likes of Amadou Onana and Joshua Kimmich.

A new left-winger

Another major objective for Deco and the sporting department is to sign a new left-winger who possesses great dribbling abilities and excels in one-on-one situations.

The Blaugrana will look for a player who can have an impact similar to what Lamine Yamal is having on the right flank. Links to players like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kaoru Mitoma have been doing the rounds, although finances will dictate any move.
