Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth has reportedly identified midfield as the main transfer priority in 2025.
The Red Devils have recently added former Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford after agreeing a deadline-day transfer with Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United have agreed to pay an initial £42 million with £8.7 million in performance-related add-ons for the 23-year-old.
Casemiro had a performance to forget against bitter rivals Liverpool after a disastrous performance in the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford last Sunday.
The former Real Madrid man struggled to keep up with the intensity of the Liverpool press and made several errors with a big contribution to the first Liverpool goal.
The 32-year-old was taken off by Ten Hag at half-time for youngster Toby Collyer.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are both hitting the latter of stages of their career and are expected to be moved on in the next 12 months.
Dan Ashworth set to search for midfield replacements
With an ageing midfield and the new project to sign younger talents, Dan Ashworth has reportedly set the goal to sign long-term replacements for midfield in 2025.
GiveMeSport senior transfer correspondent Dean Jones states: “Manchester United are lining up new midfield signings for 2025 as they are looking to continue their squad overhaul over the course of the next two transfer windows.”
“Ashworth has been challenged to bring in youthful alternatives instead of falling into the same trap as previous years when experienced trophy winners coming into the final years of their careers were targeted.”
