A new report shines some light on the internal reaction to Scott D’Amore‘s sudden departure from TNA Wrestling.
As announced by Anthem Sports & Entertainment, Inc. on February 4, Scott D’Amore’s contract has been terminated, and Anthony Cicione is replacing him as the President of TNA Wrestling.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that TNA held a meeting over Zoom to inform talent about Scott D’Amore’s departure and introduce Cicone. Len Asper, the head of Anthem, was on the call, too. Per Johnson, several talent who were on the call shared that, during the meeting, it was said that Scott D’Amore stepped down, which was not the case. This also defies what was stated in the official announcement. The report indicates that this aspect did not sit well with some talent, given their connection to D’Amore, who was well-liked.
Johnson writes that Cicone read what was described as a “prepared statement.” Further details on creative going forward are unclear, but the rest of the team remains intact. Talent were not given a chance to ask questions at the meeting, which was not a well-received move.
The report states that some talent were “extremely angry” when informed about Scott D’Amore’s exit, while some veterans tried to calm the situation. Reactions otherwise vary, with some taking a “wait and see” approach and others trying to keep the faith and focus on the work at hand.
Furthermore, Johnson states that the rumor of Anthem wanting TNA’s brand to be more in line with them was not addressed on the call.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
