Gabe Kidd has become one of NJPW’s most buzzworthy stars, but his contract is reportedly set to expire soon.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports that Gabe Kidd’s NJPW contract is coming up soon. Kidd has been with NJPW since 2020, and he is the reigning NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion. He is also a former NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champion. Per Sapp, Kidd is expected to be a talent that NJPW hopes to retain. However, there is no word on whether the two sides are actively negotiating.

Kidd crossed over to AEW/ROH in June 2024 as part of the collaboration surrounding the Forbidden Door event. He has been feuding with Kenny Omega in recent months, and he will face Omega at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.

Gabe Kidd On AEW

Kidd recently made some heated comments about AEW. In a promo posted to NJPW’s YouTube channel, he stated that he didn’t care if AEW wanted to sign him.

“I don’t give a damn if AEW wants to sign me. What, so I can show up on TV, be the new toy for a while, have a couple of matches on Dynamite, and then sit in catering for 23 weeks? Flying to Toledo, Ohio, to perform on a show in front of a crowd that’s already sat through five hours of wrestling? I have no interest in that whatsoever.”

“Wrestling means more to me than it does to these guys. I’m a professional. But it’s about time someone in New Japan stepped up and showed some real guts. We’re getting disrespected and taken advantage of by the rest of the wrestling world because we’ve been ‘professional.’ Maybe it’s time to stop being so professional. Maybe it’s time to talk a bit of trash.”

“And if anyone has a problem with that, they can come talk to me. I’ve got no issue pulling Tony Khan into an office and telling him what’s what. I’ve got no problem reading him the riot act and letting him know exactly how I feel. If that makes me unprofessional, so be it.”
